When we got out of the car, Austin looked at me and said, "hold my hand, mom!" Of course I listened and thought to myself that I'll hold his hand as long as he'll let me! The first thing he had to do was put away his folder and hang up his backpack. He got a little antsy while he waited his turn, but eventually Mrs Steele showed him exactly where his folder needs to go every Tuesday and Thursday morning.
It was 8:00 and time to find his place on the rug before we knew it. We said a quick good-bye, I love you and don't forget to tell the teacher if you have to go potty before I headed out. I snuck a quick peek in the window to make sure he was okay -- and I'm happy to report there were no tears -- from either of us!
It was definitly three of the longest hours I've spent away from him. I was so worried he'd have an accident or be upset the entire time he was there. But there he was at 11:00, all hot and sweaty from playing outside, smiling and standing quietly in line waiting for me to pick him up.
He didn't have a whole lot to say right away. He told me he had goldfish and water for snack and that he got to play outside (but he couldn't go down the big slide!). I thought he was going to fall asleep on the short drive to Nana's...however he ended up skipping his nap because he apparently talked about school ALL. AFTERNOON.
The theme of the school year is "God's Promises" and on Thursday they worked on rainbows and sang songs about rain and rainbows.
I would say the first day went off without a hitch! Hopefully we're still singing the same tune come May!
