How many of us have pinned and pinned without actually using or making anything? We (Nana, Aunt B and I) finally decided to take action with freezer cooking. Go big or go home, right? We printed out the grocery lists and planned our attack. Nana shopped for an entire afternoon and cooked different kinds of meat (approx 5 hours) throughout the week leading up to cooking day.
We started around 9:30 in the morning. We all cooked at some point, but for the most part, Nana was cooking, mixing, chopping, etc., I was packaging and labeling and Aunt B was storing and cleaning. The boys hung out outside wondering what sort of craziness we were up to now. By the end of the day we all went home with 18 different meals.
So far all of the meals have been pretty good. We've talked about changing up the recipes here and there - adding less celery, taking out this and that, etc. Our favorite so far has been the lasagna...so very good! We realized we really have a lot more than 18 meals because of the leftovers. We're usually able to get three good meals out of each recipe.
It was a long, 10 hour day of chopping, mixing, cooking, storing and labeling. I think we all enjoyed the day together - laughing and crying (while chopping onions) made the day go by quickly. I can't wait to enjoy all our hard work one meal at a time!
