The first few days at home looked a lot like this...
I don't think you realize how little a newborn does until your second round of parenthood. Most days we just find ourselves staring at her because all she does it eat, sleep and poop! We gave her her first bath the night before her first doctor's appointment. The laundry room sink is great for her bath...
She was very mad at us the first time but has since started to somewhat enjoy her bath. The Blooming Bath Tub is great! I think it keeps her warm and it helps to keep her from slip-sliding around.
Austin's bath time job is to put lotion on his sister's legs. He takes his job very seriously and gets very upset if you forget to let him help.
All clean and squeezed into a newborn outfit for the first and only time...
A quick pic with Nana and Pa for their Christmas card...
The next morning we were off to her first doctor's appointment with Dr. Kellow. I was very nervous to see how the morning would go but everything worked out and we were only five minutes late! Not to bad for our first go round as a family of four! Austin was thrilled that we were going to see Dr. Kellow for someone other than him. A sucker without even getting undressed? It was totally his kind of trip!Everything looked really good during the exam. Aubrey was less then impressed and actually fell asleep before Dr. Kellow was finished. Her stats at just five days old:
Length: 21 inches (90%)
Weight: 8 lbs and 4 oz (75%)
Head: 14 inches (75%)
Looks like we might have another beanpole on our hands! He wasn't concerned with her drop in weight because it wasn't much and their scales tend to be lighter than most hospitals.
We went out to lunch and finished up some Christmas shopping before heading back home. Jay and I were both shocked at the running we got done. We would have never have thought of taking Austin out that long so early.. what if he got fussy? where would I feed him? what if he cried in the car? I guess you're just a bit more relaxed the second time around...I nursed in Lowe's parking lot and we just dealt with it when/if she got fussy! We had a great afternoon but I think we were all (especially Mama, phew, might not have been ready for that so soon!) were happy to be home once again...
Austin loves to read to Aubrey any chance he gets.
The first week of her life was already coming to a close. Here are a few more pictures from her first week. The first one is a random picture I snapped that might go down as my all time favorite...
The next few are from Aunt B's first round of playing dressup...
| Austin can be found covering his ears a lot lately.... |
Her one week birthday was FULL of visitors. Rosalyn & Bruce, The Mollets, Great Aunt Sissy, and Ryan and Julia all came over to meet our baby girl.
Hard to believe one week had already come and gone. It's amazing how you adjust to a new family member without even realizing it. We survived the first week and we were looking forward to the busy Christmas week ahead.
